Israel continues starvation of Gazans despite UN pleas

Taiwan News.Net
Friday 21st November, 2008

In what the UN has described as collective punishment, the Israeli blockade of the Gaza Strip continues.

Notwithstanding 56% of the 1.5 million Gazan population consists of children, Israel has shut down access to the region refusing to allow desperately needed food trucks to reach their destination.

UN food agencies in Gaza that have had their food supply cut by the Israeli blockade say they are facing a "humanitarian catastrophe."

World media continues to ignore the desperate situation, Israel however has contributed to that by barring journalists from entering Gaza, a move condemned earlier this week by the Foreign Press Association. The UN appears to be a lone voice in trying to engineer some relief.

Karen AbuZayd, commissioner-general of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency, said the human toll of this month's sealing of Gaza's goods crossings was the gravest in eight years.

"It's been closed for so much longer than ever before and we have nothing in our warehouses. It will be a catastrophe if this persists, a disaster," said AbuZayd, whose agency is the largest aid body providing services to Palestinian refugees.

"They are not just under occupation, they are under siege, it's a word I don't usually use, they are completely closed off," she added.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, who issued a statement saying he supported statements by the Gazan office, telephoned Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert on Tuesday urging him to provide access for UN food trucks. Olmert said he would look into the situation on an urgent basis.

By Friday Ban had received no word back from Olmert, so he bypassed him and telephoned Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni to stress the urgency of the situation. Livni however rebuffed the UN Secretary-General's plea saying the world should be condemning Palestinian rocket attacks.

"Whoever thinks that a situation of them firing at us, while everything continues as usual, can exist is mistaken," her office said in a statement. "The international community must be more decisive in making itself heard, and in using its influence, in the face of these attacks."

Israeli human rights organization Gisha in a letter to the Israeli army on Thursday from its attorney Yadin Elam said the closure of crossings, "is done with the illegal intention of inflicting pressure on the civilian population in an attempt to affect the behavior of militants and political elements. The closure of the crossings is therefore in violation of the absolute prohibition in International Law against collective punishment." THe UN also this week described the Israeli crackdown as collective punishment.

The blockade is now putting Gaza at breaking point which many believe is the objective of the Jewish nation. A ceasefire, between Hamas and Israel, which had largely held until November 4, was broken when the Israeli army entered Gaza and carried out a raid which killed five militants. Rocket fire into Israel followed, and since then the Israeli army has stepped up activities and closed off more access points. A further 12 Palestinian militants have died. There have been no casualties on the Israeli side as most of the 140 rockets fired into the country have failed to hit any tangible targets.

In addition to preventing access for food supplies Israel has refused to allow European Union-funded fuel supplies into Gaza, starving the power generation plant of fuel which has caused widespread blackouts up to 16 hours a day. Water facilities, including access to clean drinking water, and the treatment of raw sewage continue is also being severely disrupted by fuel shortages. Fifty to sixty million liters of untreated and partially treated sewage are being dumped into the Gaza Strip Mediterranean Sea daily, posing a public health risk.

On Thursday the Associated Press, Reuters, CNN, the BBC and other major news organizations wrote a joint letter to Olmert, protesting the ban on journalists entering Gaza to cover events there. "We are gravely concerned about the prolonged and unprecedented denial of access to the Gaza Strip for the international media," the letter said.

"We would welcome an assurance that access to Gaza for international journalists will be restored immediately in the spirit of Israel's long-standing commitment to a free press."

The letter has been ignored.

Stolen Land

Since when does fighting back for your land and freedom make you a hooligan? The Zionists learned well from Hitler, he would be proud of them, as they act just like him. Egypt is a third world country that has a very hard time feeding it’s own people, if you open the borders many more people would starve than be helped. Your rich oil middle eastern countries dont want to upset America because thats where all there money comes from, so they wont help Palistinians. No one helps anyone unless money is involved, even then they take over, they dont help. Israel is greedy and buys everyone off, like Americans. Its called the United States of Israel, and that in it self is not in the best interest of America.

what to do?

this outrage committed upon innocent civilians must not be allowed to continue without protest from the international community. i am writing a letter to my (australian) foreign minister demanding Aust. pressure the Israeli govt. to change their policy of collective punishment and end the blockade of Gaza. sounds lame i know but its better than doing nothing. i ask others to do the same. imagine the hell these people are suffering. imagine if your children had the misfortune of being born there at this time.

Seems like a big lie

I have been around for more than 60 years watching the comings and goings of the rab states. In WW2 Germany made a calculated decision to wipe them out. Post-war they were able to obtain a small slice of land on which to build their own nation. The Arabs who had done bugger-all with that same land decided to take over from the Nazis and “push them into the sea” Well every time they tried they got their arses handed to them on a plate by a small nation fighting for its very existence against frightening odds. You all lost, get over it! I’m sick of hearing Arabs, Muslims, Palestinians, Syrians, Iraquis and every other so-called civilized gulf nation squawking about Israeli atrocities. It seems to me that they respond to aggression, not initiate it.

Jewish shame !!!!!

If anyone cares to research they will be able to see the truth and recognize how the Jews have repressed in their collective unconscious mind their guilt feelings over their brutal occupation & subjugation of the Arab people for over 60 years.

All this latest nonsense that there never was a Palestine and it was a land without people for a people without land is just that — nonsense ????

Surely Jewish subconscious must relate to brutal Nazi type occupation — road blocks, humiliation’s, collective punishment ,targeted assassinations etc etc !!!!

It should be apparent that the problem in Palestine is not just simply a problem of checkpoints, human rights abuses, the wall, home demolitions, the architecture of occupation or even the siege of Gaza.

The core of the problem is the illegal theft, colonization and occupation of a whole country !!!!!

It is openly admitted that Jewish Zionist’s plan was always “complete” ethnic cleansing of the Palestinians out of their homes, their land and their country which has continued for over 60 years until today the Palestinians are prisoners in their own land and their ghettos and they are literally fighting for survival !!!!!

This must be absolutely shameful for Jews to contemplate and theirs should be total anger at the way the AIPAC right wing Israeli"thugs"have hijacked Judaism.

Unfortunately the USA is Israel’s puppet and critical pieces of legislation regarding US policies towards Israel and the Middle East are drafted in AIPAC’s downtown Washington offices.

Just why are Jews 0.2% of all people on Earth presently causing so much World misery and suffering.

The ultra-Fascist-Zionists that have been so nurtured by US foreign policy and finance, may have gotten away with murder but they have also exhausted themselves — the 60 years of criminal Ethnic Cleansing carried out by Israel with the backing of the USA is finally being exposed as the cause of World Terror !!!

The ample string that Israel has played out for so long is finally near its end. Obama can be as friendly as he likes with Israel, but brutal excess has not achieved anything, nor can it.

The 4th strongest Military in the World thanks to 10 Billion $$$ per year from US Taxpayers which should stop ASAP.!!

There are in fact many Jewish movements, groups and organizations whose ideology regarding Zionism and the so-called “State of Israel” is that of the unadulterated Torah position that any form of Zionism is heresy and that the existence of the so-called “State of Israel” is illegitimate.

Zionism and its state have no share and no part in the true ISRAEL

I look forward to the day when Israelites either forced to abandon the Middle East and return to Europe and the States, or get with the program and start supporting peace and true justice. Israel cannot be allowed to continue the suffocation of Palestine. Live up to humanity or get out!

Israel: Your crimes are becoming a household topic. Most of the world despises your genocide of the Palestinians. Israel: You better get your priorities in order, the rest of the world is getting beyond fed up with your brutality. Can’t you see the only support your nation has left comes from the unwitting US taxpayer and the weapons industry? How much lower can Israel sink?

Boycott Israeli goods and protest to your government

The Israeli blockade of Gaza could only go ahead with the approval of the US and UK. David Miliband must have confirmed this approval during his recent visit to Israel. The general public needs to persuade the US government to stop sending 4 billion US dollars to Israel every year. Israel has a weak economy and cannot survive without the generosity of the US. Many individuals around the world refuse to buy Israeli goods as a protest against it’s appalling acts of inhumanity. This is something we can all do. Such action helped to put an end to aparteid in South Africa and it can help to put an end to apartheid in Israel.

Beware Jews - The end is closer than you think!

Re: How do you skin a kosher rat?

How many more people can you murder and maim US/Israel 'homicide twins?' How many more times can you break the rules of your own holy scriptures and continue your 'God’s Chosen,' caca. The answer my friend is written in Psalm 145:20 'The evil ones he will annihilate.'

How much longer will it take for the Iranians and Pakistani’s nukes to be 'liberated' to strike at the heart of that 1/2 acre of Zionist hell and fill the stratoshere over Dimona, Tel Aviv and Haifa with a cloud of radioactive kosher confetti?

The answer my friends is 'not' written in the wind - it is written on the business end of half a dozen Iranian al-Shahab IRBM’s with fresh 'oven-baked' Iranin nukes that will be available even before Hezbollah also attempts to 'cook the Jewish goose,' with some 50,000 bright and shiny missiles, rockets and chemical weapons in the hands of Shieke Massarallah.

Palestine WAS a country — my neighbour has on his Canadian passport — birthplace — Palestine!
The silent majority of the world would prefer that the Palestinians roll over and play dead and let israel have the Palestinian land. This is the main reason we are taught to fear Arabs — they fight for what is theirs, they don’t lie down and let the aggressor stomp all over them like we do. It is only 'aggression' if Palestine does it — israel can kill with ease and they are innocent? How many children are locked up in israeli gulags? Would we not fight for our children? Sadly, I fear we wouldn’t if Big Brother government told us not to.

Israeli Action Toward Gaza

Israel should be condemned by the US for this action against the Palestinians in Gaza. And, the U.S. should withold any further aid to Israel until food and medical supplies are allowed to pass inton Gaza.

Why everyone forget that Gaza have a crossinf with Egypt

And only becouse few of the rockets missed dont meen its ok.
How about the UN TELL the Hamas stop firing on Israel cities. 25 rockets a day is more then any cuntry can take. and maybe few Pilipinos in here like Cebu or Davao get few every day for 5 years...see you talk then...
Ask the Pilipinos who work in Israel, you get a true picture, not CNN or BBC. We have a right not to help our Enemy, no one do. when the war will stop, then we talk...and one last thing: ISRAEL DONT HAVE ANY ACCUption of GAZA, we left it to Hamas 3 years ago...wake up and get the FACT stright.

Egypt and Israel

Both have fences between them and the People now calling themselves Palistinians.
Israel is slammed for it but Egypt is playing the same game they shoot Gazans dead if they get out of line.
The difference of course is Muslim killing Muslim the world largely ignores.
Israeli killing Muslim now that’s a story...BUT why?

If the world really cared they would ask Egypt to lower their walls and allow free trade but of course Egypt knows the criminals and hooligans would cause trouble in Egypt much as they have everywhere they wind up.
The answer is the Arab world make them move either to Jordan or a country of their choosing.
The Arab world opened the camps they should pay for relocation and Israel should be forced to help pay AS WELL.

Get your facts straight

Perhaps the previous poster can tell us when Egyptians shot dead Gazans. He talks as though this happens on a regular basis. I have not heard of it happening at all. As far as all the Gazans being hooligans and criminals that is a racist remark. There are 1.5 million people in Gaza and most of them are children. I have seen nothing to support the notion that they are all criminals and hooligans. What is more obvious is that the previous poster is a liar and it is only through lying that people can try to justify Israel’s criminal actions in Gaza.

Israeli Pogi, agree many bigoted anti-semites here too

If & when Hamas stopped with the daily bombings in Israel & the suicide bombers there could be a peaceful solution, tho doubt it..

The peaceful Gazans are held hostage by Hamas & are being sold out..

Strange Gazans are supposedly starving but find $$$$ to make bombs..No other country but Israel sends food, med supplies ie to those that attack it..The UN is 'the united nazis' IMO..

Believe me child when I tell you that the real Zionists do not support Israel or its cartel ministry. My sources have included Abbas in trafficking with the mexican mafia ( wich we have largley defeated in Mexico). As for thier rapist President and the most corrupt defense minister in all the world, well they are likud, the descendents of the jewish kings that killed christ, not zionists. Let it be noted that I again tried to teach what the jews hide and share with the Illuminati, the lights that grow dimmer and brighter, the truth is, the stars in the sy are those lights, the stars are God of Gods childrens crowns, and the bright sun is His, The God of Gods crown. Dont believe me? Then why did the three kings follow a star to christs cradle? Genesis chapter 6 verse 4 should clarify that we are many, not just one son. Humans must become hosts for the God of Gods so that he can enter enter your body as his temple and cleanse you of your monetary enslavement. Hey theologians, now you know why there is a time of trouble like there has never been since there was anation till this time, cause I am telling everyone the truth about the lights, pretty cool huh? They are gonna get whooped by thier very own slaves, lolololololol.

The real criminals are those that starve others to death

But then these criminals stole other people’s land, they want to steal, and steal until they obtain all of the land that belongs to others.

Now really! who are the real criminals? the ones that went and stole other people’s land, or those who want to protect what is really their land.

I believe those that support these criminals in stealing other people’s land are worse criminals than those who are doing the actual stealing.

When will you open your eyes?

Once again Israel is showing the world it’s true nature. It breaks the cease fire to provoke rocket attacks so it can continue it’s extremist agenda under the cover of self-defense. We will soon see if Mr. Obama is a man of change or just another puppet on the strings of AIPAC.The world should not be surprised by the existence of Islamic extremists as long as it closes it’s collective eyes to the nazi like tactics carried out by the Israelis.

Hello Michael. It seems that the world will only deal with this problem when money talks to them. Will the world empires on watch financially no one wants to make a move to do anything. Israel, in it’s revenge, openly admitted to breaking repeatedly ceasefire after ceasefire. Resulting in one humanitarian crisis after another. It is an endless story that has inspired more than one freedom fighter. That is in itself an endless tale. Heres to Lebanon and Palestine. Hamas may enjoy more contact with al-Qai’da than Hezbollah but they are not al-Qai’da. Al-Qaida has been in both places now and no one seems to notice, until an entire rat-trap falls to the ground.
